What airports can I fly into, and how far are they from the conference venue?

The airport code for Midway is MDW. The airport code for O'Hare is ORD.

Should I rent a car upon arrival?

That decision is up to you, but if the cost is shared, a rental car can provide convenience at a reasonable cost. Just be aware that some car rental companies have age requirements and sometimes charge extra for younger drivers. If you plan to rent, rent ahead of time because renting at the time of arriving at the airport can be quite expensive.
