CPT Michael Rivera

CPT Michael Rivera was born in Fort Riley, KS, and raised primarily in El Paso, TX. In 2005, he graduated from the University of Texas of El Paso with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Air Defense Artillery. His military education includes the Air Defense Officer Basic Course, the Air Defense Officer Advanced Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School (CAS3), and US Army Airborne Course. CPT Rivera began his career as a PATRIOT Launcher Leader with B/2-43 ADA at Fort Bliss, Texas. He also served as Fire Control Enhanced Operator and transition to Short Range Air Defense as the Sentinel Platoon Leader with E/2-43 AMD. He deployed on the unit’s rotation to Kuwait as a Battle Captain in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After completing the Air Defense Officer Advanced Course, CPT Rivera was given company command with D/4-353 AR of the 162d IN BDE at Fort Polk, LA. In 2011, CPT Rivera was then assigned as the Deputy Air and Missile Defense Chief for Division HQ/3 ID at Fort Stewart, GA. He deployed as the Air and Missile Defense Chief to Kandahar Air Field in 2012. He was assigned as the Assistant Professor of Military Science (APMS) for Army ROTC at the New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in September 2013. CPT Rivera married Katherine Fierro on 24 September 2005 in El Paso, Texas. Katherine is a native of El Paso. They have one daughter, Isabella (12 years old) and one son, Isaiah (5 months old).
